On May 26, Datagroup held an online webinar to present an updated service to protect Internet resources from DDoS attacks. The online event was attended by more than 60 representatives of Ukrainian and international companies, as well as representatives of the public sector.
During the online meeting, Oleksandr Chernous, a leading security solutions specialist at Datagroup, said that over the past six months, Datagroup specialists had repulsed almost 200 attacks with a capacity of up to 168 Gbps. At the same time, Oleksandr noted that the attacks had become larger and more dangerous. In Ukraine, the number of attacks on business is also constantly growing: compared to the previous year, on average, it has almost doubled. World statistics show that not only the number of DDoS attacks is growing, but power of 1 Tbit / s is no longer uncommon.
“Last year, we faced several attacks that were larger than our external channels, and even bothered our traffic providers. And the attacked resources were blocked. Thus, there was an issue of protection against such attacks. So we added reliable cloud protection to our existing solution. Attacks that exceed the capacity of external communication channels are now sent to the cloud for cleaning. Cloud protection is used exclusively for customers of DDoS-attack protection services, who have their own autonomous system and have BGP-connections with the Datagroup network and are connected to the appropriate tariff, ”comments Oleksandr Chernous, Datagroup’s leading security solutions specialist.
During the online webinar, he told how the updated service works. For example, if the attack traffic exceeds the free capacity of Datagroup's external communication channels, the security service initiates the activation of cloud protection from an external provider. After activating the cloud protection, the Internet traffic to the corresponding secure networks begins to go through the cloud protection operator, where the main parasitic component is cleared. The traffic of the customer of the DDoS-attacks protection service comes to the DDoS-attacks protection equipment NETSCOUT Arbor (the world leader in the field of providing solutions on protection against DDoS) for final clearing of a possible parasitic component. After final cleaning of all types of parasitic component, the traffic is delivered to the customer. After the attack, the cloud protection is deactivated, and traffic resumes running on normal routes.
It will be recalled that Datagroup was the first company in the Ukrainian market to offer protection against DDoS attacks for customers, and is currently the leader in DDoS protection in Ukraine. The company constantly updates and develops the service, following the global trends of DDoS protection. Thus, at the end of 2019, the company doubled the level of protection, and this year added cloud protection from a European partner to the existing solution.
